Original body colour: age-toned, slightly heavier in places, some darker areas to the margins due to paper strengthening for no apparent reason, overall paper is in very good condition in spite of the toning.
A map of Polynesia, extending across to the Sandwich Islands in the east, west to Sumatra and south to New Zealand. Australia is named Ulimaroa or Neu=Holland. The island of Tasmania is mapped as a peninsular, an interesting map of the area. Fridrich Gottlieb Canzler was a professor at Goettingen.

Uncoloured; small brown wax stain in the engraved area and another in the lower margin, minor spottingand light marginal age-toning, otherwise a fine example.
Two maps after Capt. James Cook; one shows the entrance to the River Endeavour and the other of Botany Bay. Cook and his crew spent eight weeks repairing their ship (HMS Endeavour) in the estuary, during this time it allowed the two eminent botanists on the expedition - Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander to explore and gather samples. Their work was marked by the naming of two points at the entrance of Botany Bay, Cape Banks and Point Solander.
