A fine portrait of Abraham Ortelius by Phiippe Galle. It appears in the 'Theatrum Orbis Terrarum' from 1579 onwards and shows Ortelius aged about 50. Immediately below the portrait is a decorative scrolled box with the words "Spectandum dedit Ortelius mortalibus orbem Orbi spectandum Galleus Ortelium", which translated means"By looking Ortelius gave to mortal beings the world, by looking at his face, Galleus gave them Ortelius".

One of the finest examples of the engravers art available, published in the first edition of the John Ogilby 'Britannia'. It shows two men on horseback using a map to navigate. The scene is full of interest and portrays life from the period. Hollar 1607-77, was known in England as Wenceslaus or Wenceslas and in Germany as Wenzel. He was a Bohemian etcher, who lived in England for much of his life. He was born in Prague, and died in London, being buried at St Margaret's Church, Westminster.
