Wohlgemut was Albrecht Dürer's tutor in the early years between 1486-90. SCHEDEL, Hartmann.

Origin: Nürnberg, Anton Koberger, 1593.

An original coloured woodcut view of Jerusalem by Hartmann Schedel. Illustrating Solomon's Temple named 'Templum Salomois'. From the 'Liber Chronicarum' also known as the Nuremberg Chronicle, printed in 1493. Leaf number XVII. Most of the woodblocks for the book were done by Michael Wolgemut (1434-1519), the teacher of Albrecht Dürer, and his stepson Wilhelm Pleydenwurff (1460-1494). Wohlgemut was Albrecht Dürer's tutor in the early years between 1486-90. Hierosolymæ, cura Neemiæ ducis instauratæ descriptio. Brocardi, Villalpandi.

image

TORNIELLO, Augustino..

Origin: [Milan?, c.1610.].

Two plans of ancient Jerusalem on a single sheet, each measuring 320 x 210 mm. Orientated to the north. The left one is after Brocardus and the right after Villalpando. Geographically there appears to be no difference between the two plans, however the plan after Brocardus has a number of places named along the left side. Mount Calvary is shown on both maps outside the walls. There is no attribution as to the author of this particular engraving, it is of better quality than others of similar style. Similar to the Torniello plans of 1609 and the Quaresmius plans of 1639.The only references I can find are to Franciscus Quarismus and the Antwerp publication 'Historica, theologica et moralis Terrae Sanctae elucidatio' of 1639 and that of the earlier Torniello. This example however, is different in quality and style, being a superior engraving.

Condition: Uncoloured; some light staining mainly to the margins, minor age-toning, otherwise overall good to fine condition.
